Another Business Comes Through!!

I went over to Canso Ford today to accept a cheque for the Drive 4 UR Community Fundraising event that was held this summer. I was surprised to find that Canso Ford and all of their staff, had decided to further support the community park project by donating an additional $3000. I was speechless. Thank you all so very much for this very thoughtful and generous donation.

Here is what we've been waiting for. I am extremely happy to say that we have essentially reached our target of $220,000 today with NuStar Energy coming through in a big way with a huge donation of $10,000. This is amazing and it just goes to show how dedicated our businesses and our residents are to this town. Thank you so much NuStar Energy for your extremely generous support. To add to this, not only did they donate $10,000 to this project they are also showing up on build day with a group of employees to work as a team on build day. Can you say dedication. I am so proud of this community right now. Now all we need is for all of the volunteers that have signed up for build day to make sure you show up with tools and ready to work. WOW! WOW! WOW!

A Big donation came in today with a great meaning behind it. A huge Thank you to Subway for making a very generous $3000 donation in memory of Breanna Lundrigan. Breanna was an employee at the Subway Restaurant in Auld's Cove and she will be missed. Thank you Subway for stepping up to the plate in this very big way.

Another Business Supports Project

Today I had the pleasure of going into Gateway Hyundai and being handed a cheque for the Port Hawkesbury Community Park Project in the amount of $2000. Thank you so much to Todd Barrett and Gateway Hyundai.  I love the support we continue to receive for this amazing project. We are almost there folks.  Lets keep it going.

During the last Granville Green concert series the Port Hawkesbury Community Park project committee sold 50/50 tickets through out the show.  At the end of the night the winning ticket was drawn.  The winner was Alex Whitty.  The prize was for $260.  Alex then graciously donated the full amount back to the Community Park Project.  A very special Thank You to Alex.  Included in the picture below are some of the committee members as well as some of the kids that helped out that night.  It is always nice when someone finds it in their heart to donate to a great cause such as this.

Fund Raising Goal

Hi Everyone,

I decided to tally up our donations so far.  This includes our Cash Donations, our In-kind donations and as well as the HST rebate. This totals up to $101,100.  Wow we are getting close.  Thank you to everyone for your support so far and lets keep it going.  We need to reach our goal of $215,000 which is a combination of cash and in-kind donations.  We are well on our way.

THANK YOU LARRY MACKEIGAN and TRI-MAC TOYOTA for your generous donation of $3000. We are getting there folks. It is the generosity of businesses and residents like this that will make this project successful. Thank you again. All the donations do not have to be $3000, every donation gets us that much closer. As we have said in the past, if you are planning on donating to this great community project, then please do so now. It is very important with only 33 days left that we get all of our funds in order. Larry is also challenging the businesses out there to help make our community a better place.

A Big Donation Thank you

Just had $4000 committed to our Park Project from the local Tim Hortons.  There is the potential for more once their Smile Cookie program takes place on September 19th, 2013.  Way to go Tim Hortons.  I love when businesses give back to their communities.  Thank you :)

Phase 1 - Playground Zones
With 44 days until “Build Day” we are now on the home stretch! In order to align our fund development with the overall vision for our Community Park project, we will be completing our park in multiple phases. The first phase of the project will take place September 14th with “Build Day”. During this phase we will install multiple pieces of playground equipment as selected by youth in our community to complete our “Toddler/Preschool Zone” and “School Age Zone”. We are pleased to finally be able to show you these images!

As Build Day draws closer we call upon residents of the Strait Area to help be champions of this cause. We are hoping to raise $30,000 with this call to action. Do we have 150 Strait Area residents willing to donate $200 to help reach this goal? If you can’t personally help at this time that’s okay! Who do you know that could help? Remember, every dollar raised is matched by Let Them Be Kids.

There are multiple ways to donate. Visit our website at and click “Donate Now”. Stop in and make a donation at the Civic Centre box office, or RBC under our account “New Park for Port Hawkesbury”. If a receipt is required, folks can also write cheques payable to “Charitable Trust Fund of the Rotary Club of Port Hawkesbury”. Let’s give the children of our communities a safe place to play outdoors, pull them away from the TV and computer screens, and build a playground that will be envied by folks across the province…we can do this!

44 Days And Counting!!

Another big thank you to our latest contributors!! Flora Gillis, as well as Shannon and Caroline Hennessey. Thank you folks. Lets keep it going. Remember Scottie O's challenge on the radio this morning? He is challenging everyone in radio land to donate at least 25$. If everyone steps up to this challenge then we will hit our goal in no time. Just remember we are only 44 days left to build day. The biggest challenge right now is for us to get enough money in time to purchase all of the equipment for this amazing park project. Remember when you donate, you are not throwing your money away, you are investing it in your town to make our community better for everyone. I am looking forward to the end of build day when I can look at everyone in this community and say "WE DID IT"

Thank you Canso Ford, Ford Canada, and Strait Area Residents!

WELL DONE STRAIT AREA!!! We had approximately 250 people come in to test drive today. Providing all waivers/forms were filled out correctly/completely - that equates to $5000 donated to the Park from Ford Canada. The BBQ pulled in roughly $550 (a HUGE thank you to the businesses that pre-ordered lunch for their employees- this was a great help), the donation box pulled in over $100... all of this gets matched by Let Them Be Kids, for a GRAND TOTAL OF APPROXIMATELY $11,300 RAISED FOR OUR COMMUNITY PARK TODAY! What a fantastic show of support and community spirit; September 14th is going to be incredible! :D

Just wanted to remind people that we are now at 97 days and counting until build day. There are lots of Fundraising events being planned. The Rotary Club of Port Hawkesbury just had a very successful Golf Tournament. Canso Ford is also giving us a chance to raise up to $6000 by letting one driver per household test drive a vehicle and Ford will donate $20 per test drive. Stay tuned for more details on that great event. As well there are many more events to come. It is going to be exciting times over the next 3 months.

Site Clean Up Event

Wow! A HUGE thank you is extended to the many fine folks, young and old, who gave up 3+ hours of their Saturday morning to volunteer their time and effort in helping to clean up the site of our future Community Park. In 3 hours we were able to fill a huge dumpster and make the grounds look SO much nicer. Many hands make light was proof. The rain and drizzle couldn't have dampened the community spirit there today if it had indication of just how incredible our September 14th Build Day will be...truly awesome!

It was great to here that the Rotary club of Port Hawkesbury pledged to raise a total of $10000 for the community park project. That becomes $20000 with the LTBK award.  That is great.  Also the Strait area chamber are donating 50% of the addmissions from their Lesiure Expo on May 17 towards the community park.  It has already started.  Lets keep it going.  Congratulations everyone.  This is our chance to build our community into something amazing.
